Artist’s Statement – Ginger Jensen

My favorite time of day is 4:30 am, sitting on Black Rock Beach waiting for the sun to rise, when it is quiet, yet peppered with the movement of waves approaching my tripod.  Capturing individual moments and ‘painting a picture’ is the challenge that energizes me.  Photography helps me sort the world into beauty, sharpness or light.  Each situation calls out with a different artistic ‘voice’.

As a sailor and landscape photographer, I photograph the coast of New England.  I have exhibited at the Cape Cod Art Association, Dolphin Gallery, The Art Complex, Helen Bumpus Gallery, Plymouth Center for the Arts, North River Arts Society, South Shore Art Center and Cape Cod Art Association. Awards have included First Prize in Photography, Best of Show and an Award of Excellence. I exhibit on Cape Cod. As a jury artist member at the Cape Cod Art Association, I have received awards in national and local exhibits.

My focus has been to capture ‘STILLNESS’ as I see it, whether in the profile of a tree, the rhythm of the ocean after a winter storm has passed or in reflections of the bow of a boat. I started out working in a darkroom; enlarging, dodging and burning. From working with film, I moved to digital photography, first with multi-point video conferencing at Bolt, Beranek and Newman. This primed my interest to set up a professional digital video editing studio at a Massachusetts high school. From these beginnings, I have become fascinated with fine art photography. I shoot with a Nikon Digital SLR camera to capture the stillness of images frozen in time.

Personal Interests

I love to read and spend time with family and friends. I have sailed in Cape Cod and Vineyard waters, from Boston to Camden, Maine and from Oslo, Norway to Gothenburg, Sweden including the North Sea. I have also sailed from Stockholm to Kalmar, Sweden including the Island of Gotland.

Music provides great joy to me. I am the Program Coordinator for the Old Ship Candlelight Concerts.  I sing and play guitar in the WSU bluegrass band. I play classical piano and harpsichord and sing soprano in the Fine Arts Chorale and the Old Ship Choir. I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Fine Arts Chorale and I manage their website.

I enjoy video editing and I have been working with the Virtual Cohasset Open Studios Committee and 143 TV to video edit Virtual TOURS for Cohasset Open Studios artists.
